Not much of the castle remains and the path to the castle is narrow and stepped. Kinbane Castle is a state care historic monument sited in the townland of Cregganboy. The area surrounding Kinbane Castle is a scheduled historic monument and offers spectacular views of Rathlin Island and Dunagregor Iron Age fort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This two-storey castle was Built in 1547 by Colla MacDonnell. It was partly destroyed under English sieges by James Croft in the 1550s. Gillaspick MacDonnell inherited the castle after his father&#8217;s death in 1558. Sorley Boy MacDonnell, Colla MacDonnell&#8217;s brother, later acquired the castle when trading property with Gillaspick. It later changed hands to the MacAlisters.
